This cd is probably the most I’ve listened to straight R&B in a while! The Weeknd has mysteriously popped up outta nowhere from Toronto and after a Drake cosign and a few pitchfork/fader features is quickly getting popular. I will say he does remind me of early Drake as far as the European samples and sing/rap style but unlike tons of cheap imitations he owns it. The raps are eeehhh but thats not the point. Gotta do my obligatory post on Odd Future. They are a Wu-Tang clan ass group of artists, producers, skaters, graphic designers, groups inside of the group, etc. Plain and simple you may be offended by some of their lyrics (most of their lyrics lol) but who cares?? The masses are tired of manufactured sing songy pop rap and they will satisfy the need to just hear some artists that don’t give a fuck. that simple. as extreme as they are in my opinion they are necessary and will only slightly shift the game back to the center where it should be with some balance! so if you are offended its probably because you forgot what hip hop sounded like when it wasn’t about “buzz” “radio singles” “record sales” and everything else besides the main damn focus, THE MUSIC!!

Night started out at my studio/tattoo shop. Went out and had a GREAT time seriously Dallas artists can learn some things from the scene out there in Funkytown! Peace to @drubshinin him and his band rocked. @nievesreyes also got her shine on with some BEAUTIFUL spoken word and my bro @jdotquest had a commanding performance I like his style when the audience had no energy he was quick to call them out on it ha! truth be told he put in 5000% percent to his performance so they granted his request and proceeded to rock the house! all in all a great time if you haven’t experienced DFW hip hop I am telling you right now it is on the rise so do not sleep.

If yall have been around me at all when the Top 5 debates get to going, yall know one of my favorite lyricists I will always be arguing about is Homeboy Sandman. You moooost likely are thinking whoooo??? But please believe his name will be buzzing sooner than later. His new cd The Good Sun is one that needs to be in your playlist immediately. Posted here is a video showcasing his lyricism from his first mixtape “There Is No Spoon”. Wordplay is not even the word when it comes to describing what he does. Wordplay, storytelling, and overall positive uplifting refreshing music from this man everytime, and as for that 3rd video, he fully instructs you how to get his songs on iTunes so support real music no excuses!!

Its a Cole World don’t you agree??? If not I would love to know why! This is such an excellent body of work as was Warm Up. Listening to this project I knew exactly what I was getting into. You can look at that as a good thing or bad thing but to me I have my handful of artists that I know are ‘go to’ when it comes to kickin some fresh rhymes on beats chill enough to freeze your speakers. It gets so mundane hearing people complaining about rappers rappity rapping about nothing then when asked if they listen to music such as what my man J. Cole here presents, off top their excuse is that they don’t know him he must not have blown up yet. Really? I mean he has a track with Drake on here that must mean he’s a big deal right? He’s signed to the most successful rapper to throw up the roc so that must mean he’s a big deal right? Take away both factors and he is still as skilled as they come and I highly recommend all fellow frowners to go and get Friday Night Lights right now from his website. And to all my nerds out there, if you do not love this cd you are probably the type to take “Need For Speed” over “Gran Turismo” for obvious reason. One presents explosive impossible fantasy, the other finely hones humbling realism at its finest and that is what Cole does best.
